An eleven-day journey through Andalusia by car

Explore the best of Andalusia on this itinerary that takes you through the historic and cultural cities of Seville, Cordoba, Granada and Malaga to the Costa del Sol. You will even visit the well-known resort town of Marbella! This route will also take you through the whitewashed villages (“pueblos blancos”) of Ronda, Mijas, Casares and Setenil de las Bodegas, the coastal town of Cádiz and the town of Jerez de la Frontera, the birthplace of flamenco.The most comfortable way to do this itinerary is by car.

  • Days1 and 2: Marbella

    Puerto Banus in Marbella, Andalucía

    Arrival at Malaga airport and transfer to your resort in the coastal town of Marbella, known for the luxurious lifestyle it offers. Spend the next two days relaxing on the beach, exploring the charming old town or visiting the famous marina of Puerto Banús (about 15 minutes outside of town), full of luxury yachts, fine dining restaurants and exclusive designer boutiques. You will spend the two nights in Marbella.

  • Day 3: Day trip to Ronda and Setenil de las Bodegas

    Visit the typical Andalusian village of Ronda (just over an hour's drive away). You can immerse yourself in Ronda's rich history by visiting landmarks such as the New Bridge, which offers spectacular views of the Tajo de Ronda. Also explore the Plaza de Toros, one of the oldest bullrings in Spain, and the Lara Museum of Art, which hosts an amazing collection of historic artefacts. Enjoy a stroll through the old town, where you will find charming cobbled streets and picturesque squares. Also, just five kilometres from the city is the Reservatauro Ronda, a breeding farm for fighting bulls and pure Andalusian horses, where you might want to stop for a guided tour. Then, head north. Specifically, to the surprising white village of Setenil de las Bodegas (half an hour by car). You can explore its unique streets, where the houses are set under large boulders that form a spectacular urban grid. Admire the traditional architecture of the area in the streets of Cuevas del Sol and Cuevas de la Sombra. Don't forget to visit the Plaza de Andalucía and the Mirador del Carmen, where you will be able to take an great photograph of this peculiar town. Return to Marbella (1 h 20 min by car) to spend the night there.

  • Day 4:Day trip to the Costa del Sol beaches

    Visit coastal towns such as Nerja, for example, which has stunning beaches and magnificent views of the Mediterranean Sea. Frigiliana is known for its Moorish-influenced architecture and picturesque cobbled alleyways. Benalmádena consists of two distinct parts: the coastal area and then the mountain village, and you can explore its archaeological sites. The town of Fuengirola has a promenade that stretches for more than seven kilometres and a historic town centre that is a must, with the Sohail Castle or the Church of Santo Cristo. You can also visit Mijas and stroll through its beautiful old town full of cobbled streets with whitewashed houses; or Casares, where you should visit El Castillo, the Casa Natal Blas Infante, the Torre de la Sal or the bridge-aqueduct of Los Baños. Night in Marbella.

  • Day 5: Marbella - Tarifa - Cadiz

    Drive along the coast to Tarifa, the southernmost tip of Europe and where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean (1 h 20 min drive). Explore this quiet little Arabian town with miles of sandy beaches that offer excellent opportunities for whale-spotting. Continue to the old port city of Cádiz (one and a half hours away) and visit the Plaza de San Juan de Dios and El Pópulo, one of the most beautiful old towns in Andalusia, the colourful Central Market and the famous beaches of La Caleta and Victoria. Night in Cadiz.

  • Day 6: Cádiz - Jerez de la Frontera - Seville

    Leave the coastal city of Cadiz and visit Jerez de la Frontera/Jerez (30 minutes by car), home to the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian and Flamenco Art. Stroll through the winding streets of its Old Town and visit the Alcázar. Then head to Seville, the capital of Andalusia, which is an hour away by car or train. In the evening, you can go to an exciting flamenco show. Night in Seville.

  • Day 7: Seville

    Spend the day exploring Seville. You simply must go to the Cathedral to admire the Giralda (its beautiful bell tower), the palace complex of the Reales Alcázares, the Casa de Pilatos and the Torre del Oro and the Plaza España. You can also stroll through the Santa Cruz neighbourhood. Formerly a Jewish quarter, it is now a labyrinth of charming narrow streets, squares and whitewashed houses. Night in Seville.

  • Day 8: Day trip to Cordoba

    Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos in Córdoba, Andalucía

    Visit to the city of Cordoba, a World Heritage Site (one hour and 45 minutes by car or 45 minutes on the AVE high-speed train). This city is home to the imposing Great Mosque of Cordoba. Walk through its streets and witness the best equestrian show in the Caballerizas Reales, or royal stables, the Calahorra Tower or visit the palace-city of Medina Azahara. Don't forget to see the castle Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos and the Roman Bridge. Night in Cordoba.

  • Day 9: Cordoba - Granada

    Drive to Granada, located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountain range and an hour drive from the sea (two hours and 20 minutes by car). You can visit the Alhambra, an ancient Nasrid fortress that was home to sultans and kings. Today it is a World Heritage Site and you can roam around its beautiful gardens, the Patio de los Leones, the fountains and gardens of the Generalife and the Nasrid palaces. Then there’s El Bañuelo, in the Albaicín quarter, one of the oldest and most complete Arab public baths that has been preserved in all Spain.In the evening, visit the gypsy quarter, known as Sacromonte, which is famous for its tradition of flamenco dancing. Night in Granada.

  • Day 10: Granada - Malaga
